Nat Geo Music at WOMEX
This year the Nat Geo Music team made its way to Seville, Spain for the annual World Music Expo - a.k.a. WOMEX - where artists, labels and music people from around the world gathered for one of the biggest international music events of the year. This years highlights included performances from acts ,like Seun Kuti, Balkan Beatbox and Bajofondo Tangoclub. One of the hottest sets came from L.A.-based Cambodian-American rockers Dengue Fever - a longtime favorite here at Nat Geo Music.

Charlie Gillet on National Geographic Music Podcast

Remembering Lucky Dube
Finally, some sad news from South Africa, where homegrown roots reggae icon Lucky Dube was gunned down last month. Dube made a name for himself in the 1980s as an outspoken musical critic of the Apartheid regime. He recorded South Africa's very first reggae album (which was promptly banned by the government) and became a hero at home and abroad for making uplifting, soulful music in the face of oppression.
